- I’m curious about what actually goes on during these classes. Can I check things out?
Absolutely! All parents are welcome to stay and observe during the first session. Feel free to come and go as you please. After that, we have a loosely enforced “no parents” policy. Please understand that this is simply to make sure all students feel comfortable enough to be creative. The presence of parents (their own or others) can be a hindrance to such creativity. If you would like to arrange for a visit beyond the first session, please contact us and we’ll work something out.
- My child just can’t think on an empty stomach. Am I able to send them with a snack to eat during class?
Certainly. We only ask that you refrain from sending items containing common allergens, such as nuts or shellfish, so we can ensure the safety of all of our students. Please also keep in mind that we will be using public facilities and snacks must not create a mess..
- How many students may register for each class?
Our maximum class size depends upon the class. All decisions are made in order to maintain a student-to-teacher ratio that will allow our instructors to provide the individual attention and assistance each child deserves. - I just realized that my child won’t be able to attend one of the sessions due to another commitment. What can we do?
No problem! We understand that things come up. Please let us know as soon as possible. If we receive notification more than 24 hours before the start of the session, your total cost will be prorated and, if advance payment has already been received, a refund will be issued. Alternatively, you may be able to make arrangements for your child to attend the same session at a different date and time (subject to availability). Unfortunately, we will NOT be able to issue refunds in the event we receive less than 24 hour notice of absence.
- What are my payment options?
We accept cash, check, and credit card payments (via Eventbrite and PayPal). If paying per session, payment MUST be received prior to the start of each session. In order to receive your discount for prepayment of an entire class, payment in full must be received prior to the second class session.
- Do I need to send my child with any supplies or equipment?
Unless otherwise specified, all materials will be provided. If possible, we ask that our students bring their own laptops from home. Please contact us at the time of registration if this is not an option for you and we will make arrangements to supply a laptop for your child.
- Will there be homework?
Not in the traditional sense, no. After some of the sessions, your child may leave with additional activity or informational pages, but these are simply optional enrichment options. At no time will your child be pressured to complete work outside of class to be returned at a later date.
- What ages are your classes geared towards?
Our aim with TechBrainiacs is to reach as many students of as many different ages and ability levels as possible. Our initial course offering, Introduction to Computer Science Unplugged, consists of hands-on activities appropriate for students between the ages of roughly 7 and 12. In the near future, we will offer many other courses designed to engage learners from preschool to high school (and beyond!).
- Where will your classes take place?
At this time, we will be hosting our classes in meeting rooms at various libraries throughout the Las Vegas valley. Please see our class schedule page for more specific information about upcoming class dates and locations.
- Do you offer any bonuses or discounts for referrals?
YES! It pleases us greatly to think that you may pass on your positive experience to another family. As a token of our gratitude, we offer a 10% discount (on top of any other promotions) to BOTH the referring family and the family that has been referred. In order to collect this bonus, the referred student must pay in full for one full class, or at least six (6) individual sessions. If advance payment has already been received, a refund will be issued.
- All of my kids are interested in taking one of your classes. Do you offer sibling/family discounts?
That’s great to hear! Your total cost will be discounted 5% for each child within the same household enrolled in the same class. For example, two children enrolled would come with a 5% discount off the combined cost for two students. Three students enrolled would give 10% off the total price, and so on.
